On this episode I wanted to highlight some free ways that companies can promote their jobs online for free. By implementing the tactics you are about to hear you can reduce your spend on other channels and drive more job seeker traffic to your career site and/or job postings.
Get on Google for jobs. This is where most job seekers start anyway so you might as well get your jobs listed there. If you have an ATS chances are your provider is already pushing your jobs to the Google for Jobs search index. Or if you post jobs on places like Linkedin, Ziprecruiter and Monster, they too are also included in google for jobs. For more info head over to jobs.google.com
The Facebook Job Board. If you hire for any sort of blue collar, entry level or for low level health jobs, then you need to be on Facebook. All you need is a company facebook page that will allow you to post jobs into that ecosystem. Once posted you can get alerted to who applies through messenger or email and candidates are stored in your pages dashboard area. You should also share that job into local job search groups than will really help to boost that jobs exposure and let people tag their friends to the opportunity. There are thousands of local job search groups where people are sharing job leads. To find them simply do a search for your state or city along with the word jobs or employment. For example a quick search on the phrase “houston jobs” in the groups filter brings up several such groups with hundreds, even thousands of members. These groups are like mini job boards inside of facebook.
Email/Newsletters. If you have an ATS but have never sent those seekers any kind of news update about what's going on in your company in regards to hiring what are you waiting for? Email is a marketing channel you own so be sure to take advantage of it by creating a weekly or monthly career newsletter about your org/industry.
Social Media Distribution. Pushing your jobs to your social media channels automatically will greatly increase their discoverability. Tools like Buffer or Dlvr.it can do this for you as long as you have an RSS feed for your jobs available. Simple grab your RSS feed, plug it into buffer or dlvrit and configure the settings for how often you want to publish the jobs. You can choose to publish everything as they get posted to your ATS or limit the amount of jobs that go out from that feed. I recommend pushing all jobs to your accounts by creating job only company pages on Facebook.Twitter and Linkedin. Job seekers will discover them when doing keyword searches on those platforms.
Social Media Hashtags. When you post a job to social media you should be using hashtags which are supported on the major platforms. Use hashtags for your industry plus ones like #nowhiring or #jobs --- one of the more popular hashtags for jobs on Linkedin is actually #jobpostings with over 1.3 million followers.
Linkedin. As I mentioned before, pushing jobs to your company pages is free and easy. The other way to increase views on them is to grow your linkedin page followers using the invite function. You have to be an admin of the company page and the invite section is featured in the right hand column.Sending each invitation requires 1 credit. When your invite is accepted, the credit is returned. Maximize your monthly allowance of invites by regularly inviting your professional contacts to follow your page. You get 100 credits per month but they do not roll over.
Twitter. For Twitter the best thing to do is to follow your target audience by searching for and following people you want to hire. If you are hiring for java developers simply do a keyword search on twitter and begin following those folks who have listed java developer in their profile. A certain percentage of those users will follow you back. If you do this regularly each month for the skills you hire for you will grow your followers and increase exposure to your job tweets.
