When it comes to getting people to apply, many corporations are throwing up barriers in the job search process. Just look at our recent webinar on the job apply flow process to see how.
A trucking company just announced a new career site and I think its a great example of how to get more blue collar workers to apply to your jobs.
Epes Transport has re-launched their truck driver hiring website, https://driver.epestransport.jobs/. The mobile-friendly site features a new look and feel, improved functionality, and a streamlined online application process.
The company's major transportation markets include the Southeast, Southwest, Northeast and Midwest. Epes Transport operates a fleet of over 1,350 power units, over 7,500 trailers and employs approximately 1,200 drivers.
I give them solid marks on the design and functionality of the new career site. Highlights include;
Big bold imagery and headlines
Zip code job search at top of page
A simple lead capture form that turns candidates into warm leads
You can still search jobs on their applicant tracking system but the home page features a candidate interest form, aka lead generation form for truckers to fill out.
This form is an easy way for truckers to indicate interest to this employer. So why aren’t more blue collar employers doing the same?
A lead form like this could easily be adapted to jobs in hospitality, restaurants, construction, retail and other industries where a traditional apply process does nothing but stop candidates in their tracks.
Professional services jobs could also take a page from Epes, just look what this marketing firm did last year. Their lead capture form simply asks for your LinkedIn profile URL.
If your company is struggling to attract talent its time to get creative with your apply process. I don’t think most companies can afford to keep with the status quo.
